On Thursday, doctors in the U.K. will begin operating on a British woman after discovering that her stomach was completely ruptured by a gastric ablation.
According to The Sun, the woman had a stomach ulcer two weeks ago and had to undergo an abdominal surgery to fix it.
However, doctors decided to perform gastric sleeve surgery instead, according to The Mirror.
She has been in hospital ever since.
The patient is in her mid-40s, and her condition has stabilized since she was hospitalized, according the Sun.
But she has been dealing with stomach pain for weeks, and doctors say that the surgery could have caused further damage.
“The operation may have exacerbated her stomach problems, causing further damage,” Dr. Stuart Brown, of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, told The Sun.
“There is an assumption that you don’t get that kind of damage if you don`t do surgery.”
It could be that the stomach damage wasn’t noticed until a surgeon accidentally removed her appendix, the paper said.
