A recent Reddit thread about BTS plastic surgery has drawn attention to an unusual practice among some celebrities.
A post from user @btsbeauty said she’d been told she could get a facial lift if she did it in BTS’s style.
The post, which has since been removed, has been shared more than 500 times.
It includes a shot of a face that looks a lot like the one in the meme above, along with the caption: “Got the BTS facial lift, now how about you?”
The post has since garnered more than 4,300 likes and more than 1,000 comments.
Many users on the thread defended the practice.
“You can always do it like this,” user @susan_buc said.
“But this time I had to do it in the style of BTS.”
“I feel like this is a way of giving back to the fans,” user krystal_r_singer wrote.
“I dont know why I am doing this to myself, I just wanted to be able to get something that would give me the confidence to say that BTS has made me feel good, and not just to say it because theyre my favorite band.”
“BTS’s makeup is flawless.
The makeup is so perfect that it makes it look like theyre making up my face,” user ryderjoe_f_r wrote.
BTS is a pop group with a long history of performing and sharing their fans’ dreams.
“Bts is one of the most famous and successful groups in the world,” said Kristina V. Williams, professor of media and entertainment studies at University of Pennsylvania.
“They’re a group that, in my opinion, have had an outsized influence on how we perceive beauty and how we live our lives.”
BTS made a huge splash in the U.S. with their hit single “I Got a Boy,” which they released in 2009.
They also won the Grammy Award for best Korean pop group in 2010.
Bts has a loyal fan base in Korea, where they’ve performed and released multiple albums in the past decade.
“People are really into BTS, and they’re really into everything that Bts does,” B.A.P. member Kim Ji Hyun said.
The group is also known for making fashion statements and taking their brand of beauty seriously.
They’re known for their “bae” (boyfriend) and “gimme” (girlfriend) phrases.
P’s Kim Ji Woo said she has been told that she can get a facelift at the B.T. beauty shop.
“In BTS world, you can do it, but it has to be in the B-Style style,” she said.
Some celebrities have also expressed concerns about the practice, with one user saying they are “deeply concerned” about it.
“Honestly, I think it’s terrible and very harmful,” user mike_g wrote.
Another user, @mike_randy, said he was told by his friend that if he did get a plastic surgery done, he would have to wear a hat.
“It’s kind of like a double standard in the music industry, and it’s a double-standard in the beauty world,” @mick_tweets wrote.
Some BTS fans have said they want to get the surgery done by a surgeon, but others have said that the procedure is not medically necessary.
“If I’m getting a facial or lip lift, I dont need to be on hormones,” user jasmin_b_m_s wrote.
“@btshair is very beautiful and I dont know how anyone could make a mistake like that,” @trevor_h_g_s said.
BTA, a company that makes facial hair and lip lift products, has also come under fire from the public.
BETA recently came under fire for a series of posts from the company’s Twitter account.
The posts, which appear to have been deleted, were widely shared, and one user said they were “totally out of line.”
“As far as BTA goes, their whole ‘I like BTS hair’ line is bullshit,” user sarah_womble said.
@bta_co, a subsidiary of BTA that is owned by BTS and which makes facial and hair products, released a statement saying the company is “truly sorry for any offense that this has caused our customers.”
“We are currently in the process of addressing this situation,” the statement read.
“We want to make clear that BTA is committed to a safe environment for all our employees and customers.”
